| Changing Hearts and Minds to Value Education West Side High School is a school embracing the future. West Side graduates have distinguished themselves in both the public and private sectors, with legislators, mayors, public servants and even the current principal numbered in its alumni ranks. Many of the West Side faculty are former graduates, and West Side graduates have attended a cross section of educational institutions and universities including Harvard University. With a proud history as an educational beacon, West Side High continues to pursue academic excellence. Under strong and committed leadership, West Side High is impressing both the business and the educational community of the potential of its students. The faith of the staff in the ability of all West Side students to achieve has built renewed pride and self confidence in them. Every morning students stand and listen proudly as the Alma Mater is sung by a fellow student or a West Side teacher. School pride and spirit is supported by all members of the West Side community. As one climbs the stairs of the West Side building, years of student movement can be seen etched in the stone steps. This old, but proud building, has sheltered the guided steps of thousands of young people and one can almost hear the echoes of their presence. The West Side staff has determined that our school shall continue in this proud tradition despite the opinions of those who said it couldn't be done. No matter how stony the path, we Roughriders are ready. The Mission of West Side High School is to prepare all of our students for college, work, and life. We will provide a safe, clean, positive, and supportive learning environment in which all students can successfully develop socially, emotionally, and academically into lifelong learners and responsible, productive citizens. As educators, we will strengthen and align our curriculum with rigorous standards, ensuring that it is engaging, relevant, and implemented consistently. We will ensure that all students, parents, families and community members are respected and informed in our family-friendly school. We will strive to motivate all of our students through various innovative instructional strategies, methods, and techniques. Utilizing students' skills and talents, we will prepare them to meet the demands of an ever changing competitive global and highly technological society. |
