Welcome to Canaan Elementary!
Located on School Street in Canaan, NH, Canaan Elementary School has a student enrollment of approximately 257 students in grades PreK-4. CES has recently become a Title I School-wide School.
Literacy skills are a part of all content areas. Using a Three-tier reading intervention model and Reading Wonders as the core program, classroom teachers, reading specialists and special educators work closely to ensure that the reading needs of each student are being met. Math skills are addressed using Everyday Math 4 as the core curriculum; supported by two Title I math specialists, who work with students who are struggling with mathematical concepts or applications. The Science and Social Studies curricula are built on NGSS and 3-C standards. Both science and social studies are integrated into ELA and math. Art, music, and technology are integral parts of all content areas.
CES hosts an after school program, which allows our working families to obtain free or reasonably priced child care after school.
Students at CES have the opportunity to participate in their community. Students pack snacks for the Red Cross Blood drives, read to the seniors at the Senior Citizen Center, sponsor a Toys for Tots collection box, and adopted a horse at High Horse Therapeutic Riding Program.
The PTA and Title I liaison plan several events during the year such as a Fall Festival, Breakfast with Santa, Family Movie Nights, Birthday Books, and CES Yearbook. In addition, the PTA plants and maintains a flower garden in front of the school.
Staff and numerous volunteers make the following events possible: The annual Spelling Bee, Veteran's Day Assembly, Garden to Table Program, Destination Imagination Teams, Artist in Residence Program and Hands-on-Nature.
Community Partners provide many opportunities for CES students. We are grateful to Friends of Mascoma, Byrne Foundation, Mascoma Savings Bank and the Wellborne Foundation for providing grants, professional development and expert advice in developing place-based science opportunities, quality guest speakers, and career experiences for our students.
