Job Description

MISSION: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will improve outcomes for all public-school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Accountability Policy Specialist reports to the Manager of Policy and Communications in the Performance Reporting Division. This position will support TEA’s strategic priority of improving low-performing schools by providing support to local education agencies. The Accountability Policy Specialist will oversee the development and the adoption of administrative rules that govern the state academic accountability system and analyze proposed legislation related to academic accountability. This position will assist with outreach and training to ensure that ESCs, district staff, and other stakeholders understand and benefit from the accountability system. The Accountability Policy Specialist will work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

•Oversee the planning and execution of stakeholder meetings, including Accountability Technical Advisory Committee and the Accountability Policy Advisory Committee meetings.
•Oversee the planning, preparation, and execution of the administrative rule adoption process.
•Analyze and determine the potential impact of proposed legislation related to the accountability system.
•Assist with training, research, policy documents, explanatory materials, and state accountability appeal processing.
•Provide consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, other governmental agencies, community organizations, and the general public.



Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: At least four (4) years of experience in public school accountability and/or in working with a program that required the implementation of legislation and outreach, training, and ensuring the understanding of the program by its stakeholders.

Substitution: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
