Job Title/Position:   Title I Instructional Aide

Wage/Hour Status: Hourly/At will
Evaluator:              Director/Principal or Supervisor
School:                  Location Assigned

Qualifications:
• Education: graduate from a high school; forty-eight or more undergraduate college hours preferred
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Strong desire to make a difference and work with struggling learners
• Excellent human relations skills
• Knowledge of state curriculum preferred

Certification:
• Hold or be willing to secure a current valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
• Meet a standard of quality through a formal state or local academic assessment

Special Knowledge and Skills:
• Ability to follow guidance of the teacher and administrators
• Attention to detail in completing academic records

Physical abilities
• Ability to stand for at least thirty minutes
• Able to sit for extended time

Purpose:
The Title I Instructional Aide works independently under the guidance of staff to assist students in a variety of academic areas, individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by classroom teachers; supervises students between classes and may be asked to maintain records in classroom; control and report time worked in accordance with the duties performed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Comply with the employee handbook and the duties assigned
• Maintain student records
• Assist teachers in the learning process with students
• Supervise students and provide a safe environment
• Report any concerns to the Principal/Superintendent
• Treat all parents, students and staff in a considerate and respectful manner

Instructional delivery:
• Assist teachers as directed to provide lesson activities that actively engage students in learning and maintain discipline
• Assist teachers as directed to deliver all electronic, paper products, books, films or other media to students
• Assist teachers as directed to supervise students at the school and off site

Working environment:
• Maintain emotional control under the stress of instructional operations
• Maintain confidentiality of all information and records
• Be flexible in assisting students as requested
• Participate in staff development activities as assigned

Retirement is through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas and not Social Security. TRS requires five years of participation before any retirement funds are vested. Texas Workers Compensation covers workers in this position. This position is 100% funded with Title I funds and no additional work can be accepted without informing the payroll department prior to the start of additional work. Title I funds are Federal monies and are subject to reduction and elimination at any time.
