Job Description

Primary Purpose: 

The Executive Director is responsible for directing and leading the campus toward high standards of instruction, student support, day-to-day campus activities and compliance as required by the district.  The Executive Director’s main priority is to create astute, innovative, community-conscious scholars who aspire to attain success in college, career, and/or life despite any adversity. The Executive Director will model EPLA’s core values (CRSHH__Collaborative, Responsible, Smart, Hungry and Humble) and ensure that they are promoted throughout all school practices.



  • Master’s Degree from a competitive college or university 
  • Texas principal, Texas administrator’s certificate or comparable job related training



  • At least three years of experience as a classroom teacher
  • At least three years of experience in a campus/instructional leadership role; such as principal, assistant principal, dean of students, dean of instruction or an equivalent role

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to: 



  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions
  • Regularly consult the campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education program, include school board and district leadership when appropriate
  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals

School Climate

  • Ensure the campus’ established processes provide for a supportive, safe, and secure learning environment
  • Support and exhibit the campus’ Core Values (CRSHH) at all times
  • Provide training and check-ins to ensure the individuals you supervise continually exhibit a welcoming demeanor to all parents, families, guests, and employees
  • Incorporate a strong customer service orientation into all aspects of EPLA and school operations 
  • Foster a friendly and open environment where teamwork is encouraged among the staff. 
  • Involve staff in decision-making process when appropriate
  • Award and recognize achievements for both employees and scholars
  • Ensure quick and effective conflict resolution

School Improvement

  • Build a yearly common vision for school improvement with staff 
  • Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of EPLA’s mission
  • Identify, analyze, and apply research findings to promote school improvement
  • Develop, maintain, and use information systems and records necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives addressing each Academic Excellence Indicator 


  • Communicate and promote a high standard of excellence for staff and students
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with scholars, parents, community, teachers, principals, superintendent, and other school personnel 
  • Implement a defined and transparent system of communication with all campus stakeholders, including the use of social media, district approved apps, Robocalls, and workshops/presentations
  • Use technology effectively for communication, information management, and collaboration
  • Provide monthly parent/community engagement activities that support the campus’ achievement of improvement plan goals

Personnel Development and Management

  • Interview, select, assign, approve and promote personnel assigned to campus
  • Define expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff
  • Make recommendations to superintendent on termination, suspension, or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus
  • Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities
  • Meet with teachers or staff to develop professional skills/goals appropriate for their job assignment and identify strategies and targets to accomplish those goals
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior
  • Serve as a role model for all campus staff

Administrative, Fiscal and Facilities Management

  • Comply with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations affecting the schools
  • Develop campus budgets based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs; keep programs within budget limits; maintain fiscal control, and accurately report fiscal information
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required; including accurate and timely reporting of maximum attendance to requisitioning technology/textbooks
  • Supervise maintenance and manage use of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus

Student Management

  • Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior in line with expectations of EPLA and its values
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  • Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers

School and Community Relations


  • Communicate EPLA’s mission to the community and rally support for its mission


  • Be aware of school and community needs and take steps to meet those needs
  • Use effective and appropriate techniques to encourage parent involvement in all appropriate aspects of EPLA

Professional Growth and Development

  • Attend job related professional development training to continue personal growth 
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible
  • Accept constructive feedback from the CEO/Superintendent


Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Executive Director directly oversees and supervises the Director of Academics, Director of Operations, Director of Student Services/Culture, and the Executive Assistant/Financial Specialist.  The Executive Director indirectly oversees and supervises all other campus personnel.


Equipment Used:

Computer, copier, telephone, public address system, and other equipment applicable to position


Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Works with frequent interruptions; maintains emotional control under stress.  Lifts heavy objects (i.e. furniture) at times.  May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of scholars in danger of causing harm to themselves or others.  Conducts other duties as assigned.
