Position Summary:


Texans Can Academies - Dallas is seeking a qualified college intern to advance the mission of serving Dallas’s youth through supporting development efforts. The position is paid, part time and will extend through the academic year into June 2022. The internship spans a range of responsibilities in Development as part of the Impact Team, including managing and cultivating relationships with donors, maintaining records, managing fundraising events, and coordinating with volunteers and council members.

Qualifications:


Education/Certification:

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Those pursuing a degree in English, Social Work, Political Science, Psychology, or Public and/or Non-Profit Administration are encouraged to apply.

 

Experience:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to learn and improve upon organizational systems
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Desire to learn about the organization and the field of Development
  • Ability to engage with donors and prospects both in person and over email or phone
  • Incredible organizational skills
  • Strong self-management and priority management skills
  • Ability to welcome coaching and critique
  • Strong relationship building and listening skills
  • Ability to apply education and trainings immediately

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Interns will gain familiarity with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Fundamentals of Fundraising (7 modules) throughout their internship as outlined through the various duties below. 

 

Module 1: Fundamentals of Fundraising

  • Support the integrated development program at Texans Can Academies
  • Uphold professional standards and ethical fundraising practices (Donor Bill of Rights & AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards)

Module 2: Developing an Integrated Fundraising Program

  • Understand the essential components of Texans Can Academies integrated development program and assist in execution of the Dallas Development Plan
  • Engage in group and individual solicitations
  • Identify situations for gift acknowledgement vs acceptance vs recognition
  • Understand Texans Can – Dallas’s Development Process (prospect research, cultivation and constituency development, solicitation, acknowledgement and recognition, gift management)

Module 3: Marketing

  • Assist in sourcing information for social media

Module 4: Building & Sustaining Relationships

  • Learn effective stewardship practices
  • Recording donations and intent of donors properly in Salesforce
  • Communicating gratitude in alignment with gift impact.
  • Assist in the execution of various solicitation and cultivation strategies throughout the year

Module 5: Securing the Gift

  • Learn the six steps to major gift solicitation
  • Assist in leading special events focused on building public awareness, cultivating donors and prospects, focused fundraising, building constituencies and achieving psycho-social benefits

Module 6: Volunteers – Partners in Fundraising

  • Support the efforts of the Dallas Development Council
  • Assist in keeping volunteers informed, organized and recognized

Module 7: Management & Accountability

  • Accept, record, track and report gifts and pledges in salesforce
  • Process Gifts appropriately
  • Execute all duties ethically and transparently.

Working Conditions:


Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Working with frequent interruptions, maintaining emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.  Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying up to 20lbs. Generally office-setting conditions; some work outside at events or other locations.

 

Work Schedule:

Schedule may vary and may include evenings and weekends. Schedule generally conforms to normal office hours.

 

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, printer, copiers, fax machine, and calculator.
