Welcome to Cohasset Middle School!
Cohasset Middle School is an exhilarating place for students to learn and develop as scholars and citizens. Our school environment encourages students to explore content, develop skills, and apply knowledge in authentic ways. Our highly qualified and professional teaching faculty consistently challenges students to demonstrate their learning independently and collaboratively, developing the skills needed to be successful in our society. Our students enjoy diverse course offerings, with an average class size of 17, and have the opportunity to enroll in distance learning in areas of individual interest. Students benefit from participation in numerous clubs, activities, and athletic programs offered as co-curricular extensions of the school day. The family and community support that the CMS enjoys is a tremendous and valuable resource for our students, teachers, and staff. We aim always to provide a learning environment of mutual respect and civility.

CMS is an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment committed to excellence and growth. Our community values experiential, collaborative, active learning that is rigorous and relevant, and fosters creative, responsible contributors to a global society.

PHILOSOPHY
At Cohasset Public Schools, we are committed to following our Strategic Plan, 2021 – 2024, which was created collaboratively by the entire Cohasset School Community. This plan aligns goals from the Cohasset School Committee, District and Building Leadership, and staff, and shapes our school improvement plans. Our mission states that “Cohasset Public Schools places students first.” “We provide an optimal teaching and learning environment by cultivating empathy, global citizenship, agency, inclusivity, and community engagement to empower students to realize continuous personal growth and achievement.” We focus on teaching and learning, social and emotional wellness, resources, and communication and engagement, as we enact this mission to reach our vision to “Empower student to improve communities.”

We endeavor to create an environment focused on the whole student, as we help students realize the gains that come from navigating their educational journey, as they realize their strengths and opportunities for growth:

-We continue to encourage students to achieve their full potential socially, emotionally, and academically, as they embody equity, cultural responsiveness, inclusivity, empathy, and global citizenship.
-We continue to support students in developing agency (to act independently and make their own free choices) within an innovative and creative mindset.
-We continue to cultivate an environment of open communication, engagement, and collaborative learning opportunities among home, school, and community.
-We continue to support optimal teaching, learning, and leading through responsible funding that provides academic excellence, appropriate staffing, state of the art facilities, and quality instructional materials.

Our culture is inclusive of all students, and one where all students are challenged, respected, and valued. Not only are our students scholarly, but they are athletes, artists, and civic-minded individuals. They are the volunteers in our community and the creative thinkers who have promoted many of the extra-curricular opportunities that make Cohasset Public Schools a unique and stellar learning community. We are also a proud METCO District and are thankful for the reciprocal opportunities that METCO provides.
