Mission Statement
Daniel B. Brunton Elementary School is a place where children are valued and want to belong. It provides students with opportunities to become good citizens by taking on a variety of responsible roles in the school and community. Brunton offers a safe atmosphere where students learn in a collaborative activity-centered environment. It celebrates the accomplishments of students and staff. Our expectation is that all students will achieve at a high level. Each student will be prepared to meet the challenges of the future by being skilled in technology, problem solving and critical thinking. Finally, each student will cultivate a strong self image through successful experiences in a supportive atmosphere. Our Mission is based upon the collective experience of the faculty and is supported by research. Specifically, the research on the essential elements of effective schools has influenced the future direction of Brunton’s mission. We recognize that School Climate, Curriculum, Instruction, Coordination of Supportive Services, Evaluation and Parent and Community support are essential elements of our program.

Vision Statement

Daniel B. Brunton Elementary School takes pride in being a diverse community of learners where each person is valued and respected. It is a safe, clean and pleasant place to be. The positive atmosphere of the school motivates staff and students alike to work hard and to strive for high yet attainable goals. It offers a quality education to all children, develops their special talents, and meets individual needs. The school encourages parents and community members to become partners in the learning community. Brunton prepares children to be life long learners who are responsible and productive members of society. By focusing on definitive outcomes as the basis for curriculum design, outcome based schools depart significantly from the pattern of deeply ingrained educational practice which has allowed the clock, the schedule and the calendar--not student outcomes --to determine how, when, and why decisions are made and things are done. Now, standard setting, program organization, teaching, testing , grading, grouping and promotion practices as well as program evaluation become driving forces in defining how we must approach the teaching and learning process. Grasping the importance of this shift in emphasis and procedure is one key to understanding the real meaning of outcome based education and the powerful effects which well developed outcome based practices have on the learning success of all students.
