Schools in the Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) endeavor to cultivate learner agency through reflective practice so that all students are empowered with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve their full potential and become successful, responsible and contributing members of society--both locally and globally. The communities of the Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union share an enthusiastic commitment to place-based learning, sustainability education, whole child and trauma-informed practices, proficiency-based learning, and farm to school. Our educators are collaborative, creative, lifelong learners who value rural culture and community partnerships. Our students are connected to nature, each other, and their community. We work together toward a vision of flourishing communities sustained by engaged, compassionate, skilled citizens. OSSU serves approximately 1100 students PK-12 across six towns in four counties: Craftsbury and Greensboro in Orleans County, Hardwick and Stannard in Caledonia County, Wolcott in Lamoille County and Woodbury in Washington County. The total population within our 6 towns is approximately 6,900 residents. The geographic location of the Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union is often referred to as the Gateway to the Northeast Kingdom. We are located 20 miles from St. Johnsbury, 30 miles from Montpelier (Vermont’s capital), and 60 miles from Burlington (Vermont’s largest city). |
